Software to defend against what can't be seen

For what you can't see the solution is advanced endpoint protection with detection & response.
This protection with detection and response replaces the antivirus (AV) software of old, but yes it still is a software still runs on your computers.

It scans files and services running on your computer, as normal AV does, but also scans for the sort of activity that typically leads to an infection.
Action can be taken to prevent further compromise or send alerts before the bad thing happens, not after.

This proactive, rather than reactive method, can alert you to baddies in the network before they get the chance to do any damage.
